Requirement System for the Interface Design of Applications for Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders

The design of video game interfaces for children with neurodevelopmental disorders requires a holistic and multidisciplinary analysis, considering the characteristics of the users towards whom they are directed, and the therapeutic use of technologies for early intervention and diagnosis of these disorders, as well as the design of visual and interactive elements to motivate and influence the behaviour of their final recipients. We proposed a system of requirements which is based on the analysis and review of video game design methodologies, the interface design process, neurodesign, emotional design and the different manifestations of neurodevelopmental disorders. Added to all of the above is the review of more than seventy video games aimed at children with neurodevelopmental disorders, which allowed us to know the regularities of this type of product. For validation, we run a workshop for educators on topics aimed at the design of digital applications for the diagnosis and intervention of patients with neurodevelopmental disorders, from which the design of two video games was derived, one aimed at language disorders and one working memory and another to attention disorder and hyperactivity. The participation of specialists allowed us to validate the requirements system and optimize the video game development process.
