RFID-Enabled Smart Shopping Cart for Enhancing Shopping Efficiency and Preventing Theft

The majority of shoppers nowadays must wait in queue at the grocery store, which makes the transaction time-consuming. A huge crowd at the supermarket during weekend sales or discount events makes it difficult to wait in lengthy lines because the payment procedure is barcode-based. In this favor, an Internet of Things (IOT) – enabled_smart_shopping cart using NFC (Near Field Communication) is proposed. In addition, it consists of RFID sensors, a PIC microprocessor, Bluetooth, and Zigbee modules. RFID sensors need to be connected wirelessly. Two modules make up the execution of this task. Each product has an RFID tag attached to it; the other module, an RFID reader attached to the cart, quickly scans the product information. After then, the LCD panel shows the information for each product. The client may easily manage their shopping list in this way based on their preferences. The server receives the shopping information after which an automated payment is generated. This experimental prototype intends to reduce worries about service quality and theft prevention as well as the time-consuming purchasing experience. The proposed technique can eventually be used commercially and evaluated in a real-world setting. The suggested model is therefore more competitive than the alternative.
