Development of a Gate Driver for a High Power Electric Locomotive Mobility Converter

In this paper, the development of a gate driver for a high power electric locomotive converter is presented. The gate driver contained protection method using stray inductance in power module such as IGBT(insulated gate bipolar transistor)s. The voltage across stray inductance is measured and reconstruction to current passed into the IGBTs. The gate drive circuit was simulated and validated experimentally using a prototype.
