Visualizing the Synchronicity of Fixed Issues Across Diverse Ecosystems

In open-source software development, the utilization of software project libraries from diverse sources has become a common practice. It typically involves many developers with different backgrounds, necessitating libraries that facilitate them without compatibility issues. In particular, GitHub, which boast a vast library ecosystem, plays a pivotal role in the software community. However, this ecosystem presents diverse challenges, with one prominent issue being the presence of multiple programming languages used in library creation. To address this requirement, we introduce a visualization of inter-language cross-ecosystems libraries and conduct a comprehensive analysis, by comparing release dates and version numbers across ecosystems. Our research involves the extraction of semantic version data from GitHub repositories and the AWS-CDK package manager library. Subsequently, we collate data encompassing the total count of fixed issues corresponding to each version update within a six-month time frame of our study. Our investigation involves 149 version tags across GitHub repositories and package managers, showing of 17,625 resolved issues. The results show that distribution among cross-ecosystem package managers presents the unequal allocation of fixed issues. This unevenness is primarily attributed to temporal variations between updates, highlighting the challenge of ensuring version synchronization. In addition, the study uncovers a lack of synchronization between semantic versioning and the number of fixed issues. This is primarily driven by temporal disparities in update timing, a vital factor leading to the branching of fixed issues across package managers.
