An Extended Local Frequency Estimation-based Optimal Space/Spatial-Frequency Filter: Possibilities for Hardware Implementation and Appropriate Lengths of Registers

Recently, the optimal space/spatial-frequency filter based on the local frequency (LF) estimation and the correspondence of the filter’s region of support to the detected LFs is proposed. This solution minimizes hardware and calculation complexities and provides superior execution time performance, but is suitable for two-dimensional (2D) signals occupying narrow ranges of frequencies in a signal point. To extend this solution to the signals occupying relatively wide ranges of frequencies, the design methodology for symmetrical spreading of the filter’s region of support around the detected LFs is considered and proposed. In this paper, we consider possibilities for implementation of the extended LF estimation-based filter and the lengths of memory locations that should additionally be included.
