Towards a Comprehensive Model for Objectives-driven Regional Distributions of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

This paper outlines a comprehensive framework for constructing and applying a model for determining optimal sites for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) within a specific area. We consider a diverse set of factors such as economic, consumer, location-based consideration, alongside traffic, transportation and electric grid data to derive geo-spatial suitability for a given set of EVCS. The model constructed essentially uses a weighted graph approach to derive optimal locations of EVCS. A multi-component objective function is formulated by incorporating a multitude of factors for EVCS distribution. We used a genetic algorithm for objective function optimisation. Finally, we showcase the application of the model across the whole of Montenegro’s major roads. Two distinct instances of EVCS distribution obtained using our model are presented, one favouring population density and the other favouring traffic load.
