Regenerative Braking For Fuel Cell Powertrain

The use of batteries and supercapacitors (ultracapacitors) for regenerative braking—the return of braking energy into batteries and supercapacitors (ultracapacitors)—is one of the main advancements in hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), as fuel cells are unable to store this energy. Instead of using cutting-edge lithium ion batteries with or without supercapacitors (ultracapacitors), the power efficiency of FCVs can be further increased by utilizing regenerative braking with specialized batteries that use lithium purification in conjunction with hybrid supercapacitors.
