Melanoma Cell Internalization of Spin-Vortex Nanodisks for Cancer Treatment

In the last decades, the study of magnetic nanoparticles for biomedical applications has increased due to their great potential to develop novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. In particular, disk-shaped particles has recently emerged in this field by their unique properties. In this work, we investigate the cell-particle interaction between magnetic nanodisks in a spin-vortex configuration and skin cancer cells in-vitro cultures. The quantification and the internalization intervals of nanodisks was evaluated by magnetometry measurements. Furthermore, this study confirmed the interaction of MNDs of different sizes with tumor cells in-vitro assays and observed that magnetic nanodisks could induce up to 50% cell death in melanoma cells upon external magnetic field application.
