Comparative Analysis Between Split Stator Permanent Magnet Machine and Flux Reverse Machine

This paper proposes a new split stator-permanent magnet machine (SSPMM) based on the field modulation effect, which is evolved from the traditional flux reversal machine (FRM). Compared to FRM, SSPMM has higher quality torque. The topologies of SSPMM and FRM are presented. In addition, the analytical modeling for the proposed SSPMM is established. The electromagnetic performances including the airgap flux density distributions, back-electromotive force, cogging torque, and steady torque are analyzed comparatively. The FEA-predicted results show that the proposed SSPMM exhibits the merits of high steady torque, high quality torque, and low cogging torque.
