Laser-Enhanced Domain Wall Motion in GdFeCo and GdFe Nanowires for Racetrack Memory Applications

This study investigates the impact of the laser-annealing (LA) process on domain wall (DW) motion in GdFeCo and GdFe nanowires. Current-induced DW motion measurements revealed a substantial enhancement in velocity after a 3 ns pulse duration, with remarkable increases from 760 m/s to 1470 m/s for GdFeCo and 770 m/s to 1430 m/s for GdFe at 4.3×1011 A/m
²
and 5.2×10
¹¹
A/m
²
, respectively. Notably, LA reduced the threshold current density for DW motion in GdFe wire to 0.8×1011 A/m
²
. Additional experiments demonstrated stable DW motion, showcasing uniform DW motion for the front and rear edges of DWs without applying external magnetic fields or complex lithography processes. LA process emerges as a valuable technique by overcoming pinning effects and modifying the magnetic properties of nanowires for racetrack memory applications.
