The effect of Curie temperature distributions and average grain size on the areal density capability of heat-assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) media was calculated. For a target areal density of 2 Tbit/in

the average grain size should be less than 5.3 nm and
$\sigma T_{c}$
should be less than 25 K.
