Design of a Ka Band Corrugated Conical Feed Used for Very Small Aperture Satellite Communication Antenna

This paper presents the design and characterization of a wideband corrugated conical horn feed designed for Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs) proposed for utilization with parabolic reflectors. The feed is engineered to efficiently transmit and receive signals within the frequency range of ALCOMSAT-l satellite, spanning from 18.9GHz to 20.2GHz for downlink and from 29.3GHz to 30GHz for uplink. The fabricated horn feed encompasses these frequency bands effectively. Constructed from aluminum and fabricated using a lathe machine, the feed's S parameters were evaluated utilizing a Vector Network Analyzer coupled with two rectangular waveguides and an Ortho-Mode Transducer (OMT) for accurate measurement.
