Modeling and Simulation of Thermal Behavior of ZnO Surge Arrester using ATP-EMTP Program

This document presents a thermal model of the arrester. This model is relatively complex since the electrical and thermal characteristics of the arrester are non-linear and the electrical and thermal behaviors are coupled. The problem has been solved by developing an equivalent electrical model that takes into account all nonlinearities, including those due to convection and radiation phenomena. This model is operated on ATP / EMTP. The simulation gives the temperature distribution at different points of the arrester and allows to treatment of many electric constraints.
