A Systematic Literature Review of Gamification in Public Transportation

The utilization of public transportation is conducive to the promotion of a sustainable environment. Consequently, the promotion of transitioning from individualized modes of transportation to ecologically sustainable alternatives such as public transportation is advocated. The implementation of gamification within an application is a strategy aimed at motivating users. This study undertakes a systematic literature review (SLR) to examine the implementation of gamification in public transportation applications. The present investigation employs the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology as outlined by Kitchenham. The results of the systematic literature review indicate that a limited number of public transportation applications integrate gamification, and the scope of gamification elements employed remains narrow.
