Enhancing Active Harmonic Compensator by Using Fuzzy-PI Controller

The widespread use of power electronics equipment in modern electrical networks has led to a significant rise in harmonic disturbances in source current, causing severe effects on all equipment. Indeed, offering a Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) as a solution to eliminate harmonics and adjust reactive power variations under load transient is an excellent choice, Moreover, the control method of SAPF is more importunacy to deal with it, concurrently the proportional-Integral (PI) controller also seems too difficult to adjust, and it may cause system unstable while in wide range used. These problems are now solved with smart controllers and adjustable voltage controllers. Fuzzy logic has met a growing interest in many SAPF control applications due to its non-Linearity handling features and independence of the system modeling. The Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) relies on a set of linguistic if-then rules, like a human operator. This paper provides an investigate study of the FLC effectiveness, the control is using for tuning the PI parameters to guaranty the stability of DC-link voltage and reduction of harmonic pollution. The results of investigation conducted in MATLAB Simulink environment revealed that autotuning Fuzzy-PI outperformed conventional PI and has a lower Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) value 2.87% and faster response time.
