A Novel Notched SIW Filter with Combination of DGS Dumbbell and Circular SRR for UWB Applications

This article will discuss the development of a substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) filter with dimensions of 18×26×0.508 mm. The structure takes the form of a vertical rectangle of RF-35 taconic substrate of the rogers family, with the radiating element placed at the top and notched on its edges near the two feedlines horizontally towards the center of the radiating element, giving it a satellite-like shape. Added to this is a metamaterial in the form of a modified defective ground structure (DGS) dumbbell combined with CSRR resonators in the bottom layer of the filter, which improves transmission powers. The structure is traversed by 32 vias divided into four pairs of eight and meticulously positioned in precisely assigned surfaces to enhance its performance. The filter presents very good results in terms of S11 and S12, with a bandwidth of 98.55% from 3.5 GHz to 10.3 GHz, giving a three-peak diagram of −31 dB to −71 dB at frequencies between 4 and 10 GHz, according to the simulation on CST microwave studio. The results satisfy both technology rules and physical constraints, offering good performance on target frequencies and signal power for Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology, filtering out superfluous frequencies over a very small form factor.
