Pem Fuel Cell Powered BLDC Motor Control for Electrical Vehicle

The aim of this article is to design and optimize a proton exchange membrane fuel cell system to power a BLDC motor for an electric vehicle. The proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) has been widely used in industrial devices due to its high energy density, absence of emissions and low noise. In particular, we focus on the traction chain which contains a brushless DC motor (BLDC), commonly used as a drive element in electric vehicles, powered by fuel cell energy source via static power converters. This configuration is based on a DC/DC type boost converter used to power a DC/AC inverter with a Brushless direct current, or BLDC motor. The speed BLDC motor is controlled by PID controller. BLDC motor, motor driver system, and proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell are all modeled and integrated into the MATLAB Simulink environment. The obtained results, demonstrate that the PEMFC powered PI controlled BLDC motor follows successfully the reference with high performance for different speed and torque values.
