Study of a Low Power Arc Plasma Generator

A plasma arc torch has been designed and produced in our “QUERE” research laboratory. Its design is based on two coaxial cylindrical copper electrodes separated by an air injection passage. This device works in non-transferred mode and has cylindrical electrodes of assorted diameters and lengths. The description of the design of the plasma arc generator will be presented with the experimental tests. This generator will allow us to study plasma torches with concentric electrodes and those with hollow electrodes with several configurations. The electric arc is blown through air. Implementation of the electric arc models has been made in the simulation software Matlab and a simulation of a basic power supply of the plasma torch has been presented. We have made a study on the global modeling of the electric arc, and this in order to study the behavior of the latter.
