Just Map It: Navigation in Indoor Environments

This research paper proposes an efficient solution to navigate within indoor environments. It goes through the various attempts at indoor positioning techniques, relevance and their performance. The proposed solution is tested by the use of an end-to-end user-based service to provide efficient path finding, user assistance and analytical features over local network-based APIs. The map database structure and the network architecture are explained further which highlight the various algorithms developed to support path finding in a store specific environment. This web-based service is supported by the existing store networks to provide users with a login-free platform. Finally, the overall functioning of the network architecture is observed and the performance of the path finding algorithm is tested to monitor the impact and areas of improvement. Navigation within indoor environments has a growing need of digitization. This research is targeted at providing a robust tool serving as a template for store-like environments. The deficiencies and gaps exposed by GPS (Global Positioning System) are fulfilled by embedding efficient and accurate IPS (Indoor Positioning System) techniques with this system. Thus, a robust end-to-end service for navigating within indoor environments by harnessing the local networks is proposed to serve as a template for navigation.
