Study of the Effects of Radio Frequency Radiation on the Growth of Seeds Using Image Processing

Concerns regarding the effects of radio frequency electromagnetic radiation (RF-EMR) on the environment have been brought up by the spread of mobile devices and growing wireless communication infrastructure. Although the effects of RF-EMR on humans are well studied, its effects on plant life are still little understood. By carrying out a study on the impact of RF-EMR on seed growth, this initiative aims to close this knowledge gap. One sample of seeds was exposed to RF-EMR produced by a battery-backed, round-the-clock radiation source, and another sample of seeds was maintained in a radiation-free control setup. Plant growth parameters were carefully measured using image processing and compared between the exposed and non-exposed groups during the course of the observation period. Seeds exposed to radiation showed a reduction in germination rate compared to the non exposed seeds. This study aims to add to the existing literature on plant responses to such radiation and also contribute to the broader understanding of environmental implications associated with the growing use of mobile communication technologies.
