Analysis of the impact of high-temperature environment on the range performance of electric vehicles

The environmental temperature adaptability of electric vehicles is a key pain point issue in their development. Both high and low temperature environments have significant impact on vehicle endurance. Also, range degradation in different scenarios is a key factor to restrict the development of electric vehicles and influence the consumer choices. In the high temperature environment, due to factors such as the operation of the air conditioning refrigeration compressor, reduced battery discharge, and the operation of low-voltage accessories, the vehicle's range degradation rate is relatively high. This article tests the high-temperature range performance of 10 mainstream electric vehicles on sale and collects data on the vehicle energy flow transfer during the test process. The results show that in high-temperature environment, the reduction rate of electric vehicles range can reach more than 35%, and the accuracy coefficient of high-temperature remaining range estimation can be as low as 0.35. Moreover, there are significant differences in high-temperature range performance between different electric vehicles. By analyzing the collected energy flow data, it can be concluded that changes in the capacity of battery discharge,, air conditioning power consumption and low-voltage accessory power consumption are the main reasons for the significant decrease in vehicle high-temperature range.
