VanyaRakshak: Intelligent System Approach to Intrusion Detection in Rainforest

According to the International Consortium on Combating Wildlife Crime (ICWC), wildlife crime is a widespread issue in India that threatens ecosystems, jeopardizes food security, and impairs rural communities’ quality of life. To address this challenge, we propose VanyaRakshak, an intelligent surveillance system leveraging IoT (Internet of Things) devices for intrusion detection in rainforests. To monitor and catch poacher invasions in rainforest areas, the system combines an object identification model using pretrained models, text-to-speech conversion using gTTS(Google Text-To-Speech), and deploying IoT-enabled devices such as Raspberry Pi and wireless network equipment. The system sends an SMS alert using Twilio API to a specified group of receivers, which may include forest rangers, conservationists, or law enforcement agencies, if the model detects any indications of poaching, such as unauthorized people or wildlife disturbances. The proposed system is predicted to be set-up at the borders of the rainforest to get maximum usage from less resources.
