Quantum Resistant Blockchain-based Architecture for Secure Medical Data Sharing

The development of quantum computing substantially threatens modern cryptographic functions in blockchains, making it unsafe to share sensitive details such as Electronic Medical Records (EMRs). To address this threat, the paper proposes a novel and secure architecture for EMR data sharing using permissioned blockchain and quantum-resistant cryptography. Blockchain technology is used to provide data immutability, transparency, and integrity. Hybrid encryption with CRYSTALS-Kyber, a post-quantum cryptographic algorithm for key encapsulation and AES-256 for symmetric data encryption is used to address the security concerns in conventional blockchains. The patient stores their access policies that control who can access their data. The data access is managed via the patient-controlled re-encryption mechanism through which the data requester may safely access the EMR. The paper presents a detailed analysis of the system’s security, patient privacy, and data ownership control, offering a patient-centric solution for secure EMR sharing in the coming quantum age.
