Empowering Independence: Raspberry Pi OCR for Visually Impaired User

Reading printed text can present substantial challenges for visually impaired people, which can restrict their access to information in a variety of contexts. Previously, the only way for blind and visually impaired people to read and learn was through Braille. However, there is a dearth of training in Braille instruction as well as a shortage of Braille machines and related supplies. We address the problem of how visually impaired people can access printed text in new settings with our creative solution. Tesseract OCR is used by the system to recognise English text, and the Raspberry Pi with an attached camera is used to take pictures. The Google Text-to-Speech (gTTS) library is then used to convert the identified text into speech smoothly, providing users with a auditory output. Furthermore, translation into regional languages like Hindi and Telugu is made easier, which promotes inclusivity and makes it easier for blind people to get information in the languages they prefer.
