Design of a Fractal-inspired Monopole Antenna for S-band, IoT, and RFID Applications

A monopole structure with a fractal-based radiator and ground not covering full substrate is presented in this paper. Antenna’s radiator consists of repeated plus-shaped structures fed by tapered microstrip line-feeding. The repetitive shapes satisfy the fractal concept in the proposed work. The linearly polarized design has a volume of $0.36 \lambda \times 0.25 \lambda \times 0.01 \lambda(\lambda$ is the lowest resonating wavelength) with a peak gain of 4.37dBi at 4.1GHz. The analytical model and comparison with recent literature make it a suitable structure for S-band applications. The proposed work can also be used in all IoT applications and can act as a short-range RFID reader at the 2.4GHz ISM band.
