Experimental Study on AC Loss of a Bi-2223 Stacked-Tape Cable under the Action of Varying Magnetic Fields at Liquid Nitrogen Temperature

In This work, two types of Bi-2223 stacked tape cables, including stacked tape stand and 6-slot HTS Cable-in-conduit-conductors (CICC), are prepared. The magnetization loss of cables is measured at liquid nitrogen with the amplitude sinusoidal modulated magnetic field varies from 200 Gs to 1600 Gs and the frequency of 23.5 Hz. The effect of different arrangement of strands, various angles of applied magnetic field and different type of frame on total AC loss are studied, respectively. The result shows that the AC loss of triplet strand with surround type is lower than that with parallel type. For the HTS CICC, the total AC loss is also decreased when the magnetic field is not perpendicular to the wide side of tape. The hysteresis loss is considered as the main reason for the difference value of total AC loss under various angle of applied field. The total AC loss of CICC with copper frame is much higher than that with aluminum frame due to larger eddy current loss. Moreover, the shape of the frame also has a great influence on the eddy current loss where the total AC loss of CICC with split frame is significantly reduced compared with the origin frame.
