Calculation of Inductance and Winding Losses of Dry Type Detuned Reactor Using Finite Element Method

With the growing use of power electronics in distribution networks and industry, detuned reactors have been of great interest. Among the types of detuned reactors, dry type cast resin detuned reactor (CRDR) has received more attention. One of the most important challenges in the design of this equipment is the accurate calculation of inductance, winding losses and the exact determination of reactor dimensions based on these calculations. For this purpose, in this paper, an accurate method based on finite element for electromagnetic modeling and calculation of reactor inductance and winding losses is presented. In the proposed method, after modeling the reactor in the COMSOL software, the effect of core air gap arrangement and winding dimensions on inductance is investigated. In the following, to confirm the accuracy of the proposed method, the calculation results are compared with the values obtained from the laboratory tests. The results of this comparison show that the proposed method is very accurate and can be easily used by the designer.
