Optimizing Charging Time of Light Electric Vehicles to Reduce Congestion in Active Distribution Networks

Due to the increase in the penetration rate of electric vehicles, according to different governments’ emphasis on reducing carbon emissions, the demand for electricity has also increased. An increase in unmanaged electricity demand can cause severe problems in electricity distribution networks, such as increasing line congestion. Therefore, demand management for electric vehicle charging is one of the requirements that developing countries must meet. Therefore, this paper presents an optimal charging scheduler to reduce power distribution line congestion developed in commercial parking lots and homes with chargers. The charging schedule is based on the daily load profile. The selected test network is a modified IEEE 33-bus network for the distribution network, and optimizations and network simulation have been implemented in the DigSilent Power factory software environment and DPL programming language.
