The Impact of Traffic Lights and Electrification’s Fleet on Energy Consumption and Emissions : A Tunisian Intersections Case of Study

This study investigates the importance of traffic control strategy in a Tunisian crossroads by highlighting the analogy between the influence of static traffic lights and the adaptive strategy upon road traffic performance. Also, it considers the importance of integrating battery electric vehicles and fuel cell vehicles for different levels of electrification to reduce many environmental and energetic impacts. This research tries to visualize the energy consumption and emissions generated when two control traffic lights operate for conventional, electric, and fuel-cell vehicles. Static and adaptive strategies and electric vehicles have been estimated using a microscopic traffic simulator SUMO (Simulation of Urban Mobility) combined with Python; it is worth noticing that adaptive strategy and electric vehicles are a significant solution in reducing energy consumption, environmental impacts, and queue length and in guaranteeing better road traffic system performance.
