Modelling and Controller Design for Active Rectifier based Current-sourced Inductive Power Transfer System

Inductive power transfer enables contactless, automated, convenient, and hazard-free means of charging gadgets. The accurate modelling of the inductive charging system is crucial for designing the controllers. In this paper, the technique of Laplace phasor transform is utilised to develop a small-signal model of the active rectifier-based current sourced IPT system. The small-signal transfer-function model obtained is validated by open-loop circuit simulations of the actual system in MATLAB Simulink. Further, the model is used to design a classical compensator for maintaining constant charging voltage during CV charging. The performance of the designed compensator is extensively tested and verified through closed-loop simulations of the actual system.
