Situational Awareness I2X Pipeline Methodology for LiDAR-based Sensor Networks at the Edge of Internet of Things

Securing safety in remote or dynamic locations with limited infrastructure presents a challenge that technology plays a crucial role in addressing. The necessity for robust safety measures is emphasised in regions marked by a high incidence of accidents, such as level crossing, intersections, industrial facilities, and heavy-duty working zones. To address these challenges, this study advocates for the implementation of an agile methodology for deploying a Light Detection and Ranging extreme edge situational awareness system, acknowledging the constraints presented in these environments. This proposal integrates a detection, tracking, and classification pipeline utilising Internet of Things technology that meets real-time specifications. The integration of explainable safety solutions with cutting-edge Deep Learning techniques accelerated in hardware aims to elevate safety in these demanding environments with limited resources.
