Determining the Efficacy of Cybersecurity Awareness Programs on Enhancing WiFi Security Behaviour

WiFi networks offer several organizational benefits; including promoting mobility, collaboration, and cost-effective network expansion. Despite protective security controls being implemented, cybersecurity breaches persist, with the human element commonly being identified as the weak link. End users usually respond differently when confronted with security decisions, attributable to their level of cyber security awareness. This study examines the impact that employee cybersecurity awareness has on WiFi security behaviour and presents a validated framework for enhancing the WiFi security behaviour of employees. The study employed action research methodology in a FinTech company in Kenya where 89 employees participated. They were split into two groups consisting of a treatment group that was taken through WiFi security training and a control group that was not. Results reveal significant relationships between cybersecurity awareness, perceived behavioural control, subjective norms, attitude, and security behaviour intentions.
