Describing and Applying the Entity Framework from Simple Applications to Complex Scenarios. Case Study

Object-relational mapping (ORM) is considered today a method used in computer systems for data conversion based on object-oriented programming languages. This technique involves a “database of virtual objects” that can be used with the support of the programming language. Currently, both free (open source) and commercial packages that perform ORM can be used. In practice, it is common for some programmers to build their ORM tools. In languages that permit object-oriented programming, the entire architecture of the programs is designated as an architecture of objects and the relationships between them. The management of data, or information, refers to the methods of access and management of objects that are almost always non-scalar values. This article will present the utility of the Entity Framework for common implementation scenarios starting from systems for car sales sites or standard applications and up to the development of complex systems for managing information flows for critical systems. Moreover, the transition from the object-oriented development model to practical applications will be presented. The main advantages and disadvantages of the development environment and technology based on Asp. net will be also discussed. In conclusion, the article represents a transition from the description of the Entity Framework to the integration and application of this system in some practical applications.
