Obligations of Audiovisual Media Service Providers in Funding Independent Production in Croatia

Since the adoption of the new law on electronic media and related regulations in the Republic of Croatia, there have been many criticisms of imposed obligations for media service providers operating in the market to finance the independent production. This paper examines the relevant provisions of laws and regulations governing the financing of independent production and provides a comparative analysis of the legal arrangements in other EU member states. comparative analysis was performed by comparing available legal texts and other available sources that impose the obligation to finance independent production The paper also analyses and examines the proportionality of provisions of the law in Croatia and their conformity to the proclaimed goal to be achieved.
