Optimal Observer Maneuver Recommendation for Range Calculation Using Bearing Only Measurement

Observer maneuver is important in bearing-only tracking for ensuring observability and acquire an accurate target estimate. This research work proposes, an approach for improving the accuracy of underwater tracking for submarine using bearing-only measurement. The methodology mainly focuses on the Observer Maneuver Recommendation, and also involves Line of Sight (LOS) calculation for Ekelund Ranging and Min-Max Range estimation. Results show that Own ship maneuver recommendation significantly improves the accuracy of range estimates and also highlights the importance of maneuver recommendation in passive sonar tracking. The experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the methodology and also provide a practical way to estimate target range using bearing measurement.
