An Ultrathin FSS Absorber for X-Band Applications

In this letter, a novel wideband absorber based on a dual - layer frequency selective surface is presented for wearables for soldiers that are lightweight, low profile, flexible, and wideband. The designed absorber FSS is composed of a Jean's material like dielectric constant as a substrate, split ring resonator, square loop which are etched on top, bottom and backed metal ground plane below. The microwave absorber is designed for shielding for military applications in X band, i.e., from 8.17 to 11.52 GHz which covering a bandwidth of 3.35 GHz in the X-band. A whole combined structure constitutes an absorptivity of 90%. The unit cell size of proposed FSS is

The designed absorber FSS provides angular stability up to 40o at various angle of incidences for both the modes of polarizations (TE & TM).
