Passivity-Based Design of a Harmonic Voltage-Controlled Active Power Filter

Existing research finds that the passivity-based design of the conventional active power filter (APF) depends on the specific nonlinear load. Thus, it is difficult to make an APF dissipative under a variety of nonlinear loads (NLLs). To solve this problem, this paper proposes a harmonic voltage-controlled APF aiming to suppress the harmonic voltage at the point of common coupling. It turns out that the harmonic voltage-controlled APF functions the same as the conventional APF, i.e., suppressing the harmonic current. Besides, the APF’s output admittance is independent of the NLL used, which means the dissipativity of harmonic voltage-controlled APF is independent of the nonlinear load used. Moreover, passivity-based design of the harmonic voltage-controlled APF is then formulated. Finally, relevant simulation verifies the effectiveness of the proposed APF.
