Fault Diagnosis of a Rotating Rectifier in a Three-Stage Starter-Generator based on the Main Exciter Stator Currents

A new approach for diagnosing faults in the rotating rectifier of a three-stage starter/generator is introduced. In this method, the stator three-phase currents of the main exciter are collected and quadratic sum calculated, then the fundamental component as well as the DC component of the quadratic sum of currents are obtained. The amplitude ratio of the two components is calculated for fault diagnosis. The practicality and validity of the proposed method are demonstrated through experimental validation.
