A Resistance-Emulating Control for AC/DC Matrix Converter Under Unbalanced Grids with Minimum Sensor Requirement

The unbalanced grid voltages of AC/DC converters will cause the pulsating DC voltage/current and poor input current quality. To address this issue, this paper proposes a resistance-emulating control method for AC/DC matrix converter (MC) that is effective under both balanced and unbalanced grid voltage conditions. The concepts of the common-mode resistance and the differential-mode resistance are introduced. The proposed method has the following features: 1) information about circuit parameters is not required; 2) low cost on sensors because the measurements of capacitor voltage and DC current are only required. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by experimental results.
