An Interleaved High Switching Frequency Boost Converter with Low Input Current Ripple Based on Model Predictive Control

DC-DC converters are more interested in applying in distributed photovoltaic (PV) energy systems, which require low voltage input, high power density and low input current ripple. Hence, we propose an interleaved boost dc-dc converter (IBC) that provides low input current ripple, high dynamic performance, and high efficiency at high switching frequency. The low input current ripple is obtained by connecting two conventional boost converters in parallel, using a novel control method based on model predictive control. Since the current is shared between the converters inputs, the current stress is reduced, which leads to greater power device selection freedom and faster system dynamic response. The proposed converter is analyzed in details and an experimental prototype is implemented to verify the theoretical results.
