An Improved Modulated Model Predictive Control for T-type Three-Level Converter

Modulated model predictive control (M2PC) for T-type three-level converter utilizes triple voltage-vectors in each control cycle to reduce current ripple; however, concerns arise regarding the optimality of synthesized voltage-vectors, as the duration time is calculated inversely proportional to cost function values. To address this issue, the impact of conventional duration time calculation method employed in M2PC is analyzed, with its drawbacks revealed. Subsequently, an improved modulated model predictive control (IM2PC) is proposed, incorporating a novel duration time calculation method to enhance the steady-state performance. The proposed method improves power quality by minimizing the discrepancy between desired voltages and converter output voltages, which mitigates current distortion. Finally, comparative experiments were conducted using a T-type three-level converter, and results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
