Direct Connection of EV Fast Charging Station to Medium Voltage AC Grid

This paper proposes a new configuration for electric vehicle fast-charging stations integrated into a medium voltage AC power grid. The current-source rectifier-based EV station is connected to the grid without using any low-frequency transformers thanks to its low gain merit and low grid current harmonics due to the power factor correction of the rectifier. A dual-active bridge converter regulates and isolates the desired DC voltage. To control the operation of the converter, synchronous reference frame control with space vector modulation and theoretical analyses of the closed-loop strategy are used and discussed in detail. The performance of the proposed EV-station arrangement is evaluated using simulation results conducted in MATLAB Simulink environment.
