Fault-Tolerant Control of Dual-Three-Phase PMSM under Open-Phase Fault Based on Two-Individual Current Control

The fault-tolerant control (FTC) of dual three-phase PMSMs (DTPMSMs) with open-phase fault (OPF) is studied. The model is based on two-individual current (TIC). The phase currents and torque under OPF are analyzed first. The analysis results show that the torque of healthy three-phase windings is the same under both healthy and faulty mode while the faulty three-phase windings produce overcurrent and torque ripples, especially the second and fourth harmonic components. Then, the ML FTC strategy under TIC control is extended from vector space decomposition (VSD) control based on the relationship between TIC model and VSD model. Due to the same transformation matrices, modulation method, and the control framework under both healthy mode and OPF, it can smoothly switch between healthy and faulty mode with FTC. Also, significant torque ripples are reduced. The proposed control strategy is easy to implemented without heavy computation burden. Both experiments and simulation on a laboratory DTPMSM are carried out to verify the analysis and the developed FTC method.
