A Review of Research Progress on Low-Voltage DC Solid-State Circuit Breakers

Low-voltage DC (LVDC) distribution systems have been initially applied in a variety of scenarios, and at the same time, higher requirements have been placed on the opening performance of circuit breakers (CB). With the development of power electronics technology, solid-state circuit breakers (SSCB) with semiconductor power devices as the core have become attractive protection equipment for LVDC distribution systems. This paper firstly explains the advantages of SSCB compared with mechanical circuit breakers (MCB) and hybrid circuit breakers (HCB) in LVDC systems, and then discusses in detail the key issues in the design process of SSCB: power device performance, breaker topology and its working principle. Finally, the development direction of SSCB is pointed out to provide valuable references for related research.
