Novel Rail Transit System: AC 3kV System

The development of the times has brought new challenges to urban rail transit, including higher speed, larger traffic volume, safer and more energy-saving operation. However, the current DC system and single-phase AC system cannot reach the standard. Therefore, the novel AC 3 kV rail transit system is proposed. Considering the topology of the train traction converter and the characteristics of the core device IGBT, the voltage level of the new system is AC 3 kV. Novel AC 3 kV traction power supply system is proposed, including single-phase and three-phase systems. A case is studied. The results show that the AC 3 kV power supply scheme has significant advantages in both economic and technical aspects. The life cycle cost can save up to 18.24% compared with the DC 1.5kV system.
