A Dead-Time-Effect Elimination DPWM with High Efficiencies and Low Harmonics

To achieve the characteristics of high efficiencies and low harmonics, in this paper, the conventional discontinuous pulse-width-modulation (DPWM) and the dead-time elimination PWM are analyzed and combined, proposing a new dead-time-effect elimination DPWM. An analytical averaged loss model for the two-level voltage-source converter is investigated, based on which the power device-losses are calculated with different PWM schemes. To verify the correctness of the loss calculation, loss simulations are carried out in PLECS. Comparative calculation results and simulation results verify that, the proposed dead-time elimination DPWM can simultaneously achieve the characteristics of high efficiencies and low harmonics.
