A Generic Power Loss Calculation Method for Fast Converter Performance Scanning

This paper proposes a power loss calculation method that can rapidly evaluate converter performance under various system specifications. A graph-based path search algorithm is proposed to identify all current paths within the given converter. Next, a universal program based on current path modeling is developed, which is used to estimate the loss of switching devices under a given converter output current. Furthermore, the steady-state operating waveforms of the converter are obtained using frequency domain analysis, thereby reducing the calculation time. Finally, this method is verified with simulation based on active neutral-point clamped (ANPC) converters. The comparison result indicates that the relative error between the calculated and simulated power losses remains below ±2.5% in the current range of 60A to 150A, while achieving a speed improvement of more than 50 times.
