A Fuzzy Control Strategy for Improve the Performance of CHB-STATCOM Under Grid Faults

In the case of grid voltage asymmetric fault, the cascaded H-bridge static synchronous compensator (CHB-STATCOM) with proportional-integral (PI) controller is easy to produce large current impulse and voltage imbalance between clusters. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a fuzzy control strategy (FCS) with PI self-tuning ability, which significantly reduces the reactive current impulse and dc voltage fluctuation of CHB-STATCOM under grid faults. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by building a simulation in MATLAB/SIMULINK.
