A Lightweight Self-Powered Module Based on Magnetic Energy Harvesting for Transmission Line Remotely Sensing

Transmission line condition monitoring is very important for the safe and reliable operation of the power grid, in which wireless sensors play an important role. Power supply is one of the main challenges in deploying wireless sensors. In this paper, a lightweight self-powered module with flexible installation and a wide range of application scenarios is proposed for wireless sensors power supply in transmission line condition monitoring. The magnetic energy harvester model for lightweight magnetic core is analyzed to predict the output power and voltage. The key design parameters are also analyzed to locate the most critical ones that determining the output power and power density of MEH. A self-powered module with power management circuit, as well as temperature sensor and 4G communication is constructed and tested. The proposed self-powered module can generate 30mW power under 115Arms transmission line. The overall weight is only 100 g.
