Designing Series-capacitor Quadratic Buck Converter

This paper presents a novel design approach for achieving high step-down series-capacitor quadratic buck converters. By integrating a 3-terminal switching cell comprising 2 switches, 1 capacitor, and 1 inductor into a series-capacitor buck converter, a quadratic buck converter with enhanced step-down conversion capability is obtained. The proposed methodology is elaborated upon in detail, facilitating the derivation of various series-capacitor quadratic-buck converter configurations with improved step-down conversion ratios. Experimental results demonstrate that one of the proposed topologies achieves a peak efficiency of 92% with an output power of 20W from 48V to 1V.
